Job Description

Sunbelt Staffing is working with a school district in the Charlotte area to find a qualified Special Education Teacher for a full-time contract assignment. This position is suited for an educator who enjoys tailoring instruction to individual students and working closely with classroom teachers, families, and support professionals. The successful candidate will help create an environment where students with disabilities can build academic, social, and functional skills.

Primary Duties

  • Provide specialized instruction based on students' individual learning needs and IEP goals
  • Develop and maintain Individualized Education Programs in accordance with district requirements
  • Adapt curriculum, assignments, and instructional methods to improve student accessibility
  • Collect performance data and monitor progress toward academic and functional objectives
  • Coordinate with general education teachers and related service providers
  • Communicate student progress and educational needs with parents and guardians
  • Maintain accurate records and complete required special education documentation
  • Participate in IEP meetings, evaluations, and other student support meetings

Professional Skills

  • Strong classroom management and instructional planning abilities
  • Effective communication with students, families, and school personnel
  • Ability to differentiate instruction for varied learning abilities
  • Organized approach to managing caseload responsibilities and documentation
  • Collaborative and student-centered mindset

Qualifications

  • Current North Carolina Special Education teaching license or eligibility
  • Appropriate Exceptional Children (EC) licensure through the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction
  • Familiarity with IEP development and special education compliance
  • Ability to meet all district employment and background requirements

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field
  • Graduate-level education or specialized coursework is a plus

Experience

  • Previous K-12 special education teaching experience preferred
  • Experience with inclusion, resource, or self-contained classrooms is beneficial
  • Educators who are newly licensed are welcome to apply
