STATUS: Part-Time

FLSA DESIGNATION: Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO: Residential Manager

DEGREE: High School or GED

EXPERIENCE: None Required

WAGE: $17.52 per hour

DEGREE: Associates Degree in Human Services preferred. High School diploma (or GED) required

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Resident Care Worker is responsible for supporting the agency initiative of providing a safe and secure environment for those in our emergency shelter; in addition to demonstrating knowledge of the mission and services of Pinnacle Community Services, Inc. (PCS).

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

Position requires flexibility in scheduling with availability to support a 24/7 environment including holidays, weekends and overnights

Ability to use Microsoft applications (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.), Internet/Intranet, web based databases. Understanding of the use of email in the workplace

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Answers incoming telephone calls from domestic violence victims; assesses crisis situations; and takes appropriate action
  • Answers calls from general public requesting information in a polite and welcoming manner
  • Conducts client intakes, including all paperwork in a legible manner, and admits clients to shelter
  • Respects client confidentiality
  • Follows all appropriate procedures upon arrival of client to be admitted, including orientating clients to Shelter physical plant and amenities; educates clients on the Shelter Guidelines and other rules/procedures; clearly presents fire safety plan; accompanies client to their assigned room; provides toilet articles
  • Documents Daily Log notes and shares other client information with incoming coverage staff, as appropriate
  • Maintains contact with Shelter clients; provides brief emotional support, as needed.
  • Refers clients to social work staff for counseling issues
  • Monitors and oversees daily chores, meal preparation and cleanup, and ensures that appliances are used in a safe manner
  • Maintains a safe, comfortable environment for women and children in residence, including not leaving the residence unsupervised without supervisory approval
  • Assists Residential Care Coordinator in obtaining and storing supplies, organizing donations and in maintaining Shelter building and grounds
  • Participates actively in ongoing professional development
  • Meets and participates on a regular, planned basis with the Resident Care Coordinator for supervision

PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to work in a crisis intervention setting
  • Job performed in a shelter/residential setting
  • Occasional lifting (15 pounds or less)
  • Occasional standing/sitting
  • Moderate stress
  • Occasional PC/computer work

AGENCY EXPECTATIONS:

  • Attends and participates in appropriate Agency staff trainings and meetings
  • Advocates for cultural diversity/sensitivity as appropriate
