Rooted Kids Inc. is an innovative school readiness program designed by Occupational Therapists to help children ages 2–5 build the foundational skills needed for success in school and everyday life. Through engaging, small-group experiences, children develop self-regulation, coordination, fine motor and visual motor skills, handwriting readiness, and functional life skills in a fun, supportive environment.
Role Description
The Early Childhood Development Associate is a part-time, on-site position based in Irvington, NY. Working alongside a licensed Occupational Therapist and another team member, you will help lead small-group school readiness sessions for children ages 2–5.
Each associate supports approximately two children during structured 60-minute sessions (maximum of six children per group). This is an active, hands-on role that includes movement-based obstacle courses, fine motor and pre-writing activities, and simulated daily living routines that help children build confidence, independence, and school readiness.
This position is ideal for students pursuing careers in Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology, Psychology, Early Childhood Education, Nursing, Child Development, or related health professions who are looking for meaningful pediatric experience.
Responsibilities
- Support approximately two children during each session.
- Encourage participation, engagement, and independence throughout activities.
- Assist children through obstacle courses that develop coordination, balance, motor planning, and body awareness.
- Support fine motor, visual motor, and pre-writing activities.
- Guide children through simulated life skills including handwashing, dressing (over clothing), backpack routines, and lunch preparation.
- Prepare and reset activity stations before and after sessions.
- Maintain a clean, safe, organized environment.
- Collaborate with supervising Occupational Therapists and fellow team members.
- Build positive, professional relationships with children and families.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a program in Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology, Psychology, Early Childhood Education, Nursing, Child Development, or a related field.
- Experience working with young children is preferred but not required.
- Energetic, dependable, patient, and enthusiastic.
- Comfortable being physically active throughout the day.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Reliable transportation to Irvington, NY.
