Position Summary

The Inventory & Purchasing Specialist is responsible for supporting the company’s purchasing and inventory operations by maintaining strong vendor relationships, sourcing new suppliers, creating and managing purchase orders, and ensuring accurate inventory levels across company locations.

This is a hands-on position that requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to balance purchasing responsibilities with day-to-day inventory needs. The Inventory & Purchasing Specialist will oversee inventory counts and cycle counts, assist with parts delivery and pickup as needed, and work to establish appropriate minimum and maximum stocking levels for inventory items.


**The position also requires monthly travel to Columbia, South Carolina, to perform and verify inventory counts.**


Key Responsibilities

Purchasing & Vendor Management

  • Maintain strong, professional relationships with existing vendors and suppliers.
  • Source, evaluate, and help establish relationships with new vendors to improve pricing, availability, lead times, and service.
  • Request and compare vendor quotes as needed.
  • Create and process purchase orders accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Follow up with vendors regarding order status, back-orders, pricing discrepancies, delivery dates, and other purchasing issues.
  • Work with internal teams to identify purchasing requirements and ensure parts and materials are available when needed.
  • Assist in identifying cost-saving and purchasing efficiency opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate vendor, pricing, and purchasing information.


Inventory Management

  • Oversee and participate in physical inventory counts and routine cycle counts.
  • Investigate and help resolve inventory discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and assist with inventory adjustments when appropriate.
  • Monitor inventory usage and stocking levels.
  • Work to establish and continually improve minimum and maximum inventory quantities for parts and materials based on usage, lead times, operational needs, and supplier availability.
  • Identify slow-moving, obsolete, overstocked, or frequently out-of-stock items and recommend appropriate action.
  • Help develop and maintain organized, accurate, and efficient inventory storage areas.
  • Support ongoing improvements to inventory control procedures and processes.


Parts & Operational Support

  • Pick up, deliver, and transport parts or materials between vendors, facilities, and job locations as needed.
  • Assist operations with locating and obtaining critical or time-sensitive parts.
  • Coordinate with team members to ensure parts and materials are available to support operational requirements.
  • Perform other purchasing, inventory, and operational support duties as assigned.


Columbia Inventory Responsibilities

  • Travel to Columbia, South Carolina approximately once per month to conduct and verify inventory counts.
  • Review inventory accuracy and identify discrepancies or process concerns.
  • Coordinate with personnel at the Columbia location to maintain appropriate inventory levels and stocking practices.
  • Follow up on inventory adjustments and corrective actions identified during monthly counts.


Qualifications

  • Previous experience in purchasing, procurement, inventory control, warehouse operations, parts management, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience creating and managing purchase orders preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and work effectively with inventory and purchasing systems.
  • Strong communication and vendor relationship management skills.
  • Ability to compare pricing, lead times, and supplier options to make sound purchasing decisions.
  • Ability to identify inventory trends and assist with determining appropriate stocking levels.
  • Comfortable working in both an office and warehouse/operational environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond to urgent parts or purchasing needs.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, email, and general business software.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to Columbia, South Carolina approximately once per month.
