Rental Inspection Supervisor – Light Construction Equipment
The South Florida Caterpillar Dealer is seeking a motivated and experienced Rental Service Supervisor to support rental fleet operations across multiple branch locations. This position is responsible for overseeing the inspection, documentation, maintenance, and preparation of rental equipment to ensure it meets company and Caterpillar standards for safety, reliability, appearance, and customer satisfaction. The Rental Inspection Supervisor serves as a working leader and subject matter expert, performing all Rental Inspector responsibilities while providing leadership, training, coaching, auditing, and technical support to Rental Inspectors. This role plays a critical part in maximizing fleet availability, improving equipment readiness, reducing downtime, and delivering an exceptional customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise and support Rental Inspectors across multiple branch locations.
Perform and audit CAT Inspect inspections on rental equipment.
Train and coach team members on CAT Inspect, ET, damage reporting, safety requirements, and inspection procedures.
Ensure inspection documentation is accurate, complete, and compliant with company standards.
Coordinate equipment readiness activities to maximize fleet utilization and customer availability.
Assist with equipment troubleshooting, diagnostics, and minor repairs.
Ensure equipment is delivered in a clean, safe, and rental-ready condition.
Travel between branch locations and customer job sites to support equipment inspections and customer concerns.
Conduct safety audits and promote compliance with company, Caterpillar, and OSHA requirements.
Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on fleet reliability, inspection quality, and operational efficiency.
Create and maintain reports to measure and track Rental Inspector productivity, equipment inspection quality, fleet readiness, and overall operational efficiency.
Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement corrective actions to improve productivity, consistency, and service levels.
Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching, development, and performance feedback.
Manage employee scheduling, staffing assignments, and workload distribution to ensure efficient operations and timely completion of inspections.
Participate in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding Rental Inspectors and related personnel.
Address employee performance, attendance, and disciplinary matters in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Develop succession plans, training programs, and career development opportunities to strengthen team capabilities and support future organizational growth.
Collaborate with Rental Operations, Service, Transportation, and Branch Management teams to improve communication, fleet availability, and customer satisfaction.
Serve as the primary subject matter expert on rental inspection standards, processes, and best practices.
Qualifications
Mechanical experience with heavy equipment required.
Previous leadership, supervisory, or lead experience preferred.
Strong customer service, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Outlook, mobile devices, CAT Inspect, ET, and related software applications.
Experience leading, coaching, and developing employees, including performance management and workforce planning, preferred.
Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Forklift certification preferred (or ability to obtain certification).
Must provide and maintain an appropriate set of tools.
Ability to safely operate heavy and light construction equipment.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
Ability to safely climb on, off, and around heavy and light construction equipment to perform inspections, evaluations, and operational checks.
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and work in varying positions for extended periods throughout the workday.
Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, including heat, humidity, rain, and uneven terrain.
Ability to travel regularly between branch locations and customer job sites as required.
