The Chocker is responsible for safely securing vehicles within carriers for transport by accurately positioning automobiles, applying and removing chocks and straps, and consistently following safety procedures in a physically demanding outdoor environment.

Responsibilities
  • Secure each vehicle by correctly placing and removing chocks on every car wheel.
  • Ensure the precise positioning of automobiles within the carriers to maximize safety and efficiency.
  • Apply chocks and straps to vehicles in the carrier to prevent movement during transport.
  • Remove chocks and straps from vehicles upon arrival at the terminal.
  • Wear and use all required personal protective equipment at all times while working.
  • Take personal responsibility for safety and follow all safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Work from written assignment sheets and accurately sign off work completed on printed forms.
  • Read and interpret operational manuals to perform tasks correctly and safely.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to requests for service and assistance.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle information with discretion.
  • Work effectively under pressure and tight deadlines while managing conflict constructively.
  • Adapt to working odd hours and split shifts, including days, nights, and weekends, to support train arrival and departure schedules.
  • Perform duties independently and work alone without direct supervision as needed.

Work Environment

This role is based in an outdoor, industrial setting where you regularly work around moving mechanical parts and are exposed to varying weather conditions. You must be willing to work in all weather conditions and adjust to various hours to accommodate train arrivals and departures. The schedule typically involves 6-hour shifts, 5 to 6 days per week, with start times varying between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. You will work every weekend and receive 1 to 2 days off during the week. The position requires comfort with odd hours and split shifts, including days, nights, and weekends. Noise levels are usually moderate, and you may occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles. You will often work alone and unsupervised, making reliability and self-direction essential, and you will be expected to wear appropriate protective equipment as part of the standard dress and safety requirements.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lorton, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
