Direct Support Professional (DSP)
We are seeking a compassionate, dependable, and motivated Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide direct care and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a residential group home setting.
The ideal candidate has previous caregiving or healthcare experience and is comfortable working independently. We are looking for someone who is flexible, patient, reliable, encouraging, and able to exercise good judgment and make timely decisions.
As a DSP, you will provide day-to-day support based on each individual’s unique needs and goals. This may include assistance with personal care, daily living skills, communication, social activities, community participation, and other activities that promote greater independence and quality of life.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, person-centered support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Assist individuals in developing and maintaining skills identified in their Individualized Support Plans (ISPs).
- Support daily living activities, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, cooking, cleaning, shopping, and other household routines.
- Assist with community outings, recreational activities, and social opportunities.
- Coordinate and assist with medical appointments and other scheduled activities as needed.
- Encourage individuals to participate in activities and work toward their personal goals while promoting independence and choice.
- Accurately collect, document, submit, and maintain required information related to attendance, services provided, and progress toward individual goals.
- Use designated software to document daily activities, services, and developmental progress.
- Complete all required training necessary to meet licensing and program requirements.
- Participate in additional professional development and training as requested.
- Follow established policies, procedures, safety requirements, and individual support plans.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a caregiver, Direct Support Professional, Personal Care Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, or in a related healthcare or human services role is preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Patient, compassionate, dependable, and respectful when supporting individuals with varying needs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and make appropriate decisions in a timely manner.
- Comfortable using computers, mobile devices, or software applications for daily documentation.
- Willingness to complete all required training.
CPR/First Aid, medication administration, and therapeutic options training are a plus.
