The Paralegal performs substantive legal work under the supervision of attorneys that require knowledge of legal concepts, procedures, and case management. The Paralegal assists attorneys with case development, legal research, discovery, document analysis, trial and/or litigation preparation, and other substantive legal and/or case management tasks. Paralegals may also perform any duties assigned to Legal Assistants, as well as duties and responsibilities set below:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Oversee assigned litigation or transactional projects assigned by attorneys.

• Review case files and identify outstanding deadlines, discovery obligations, and case needs.

• Conduct legal research using legal databases and Public Records.

• Analyze statutes, regulations, court rules, and case law.

• Prepare legal research memorandums and summaries for attorney review.

• Review, organize, summarize, analyze and/or prepare discovery request/responses and corresponding document productions.

• Utilize and administer litigation technology, including document management systems, e-discovery platforms, legal research databases, trial presentation software, and other litigation support technologies.

• Prepare privilege logs and document indexes.

• Coordinate collection and management of electronically stored information (ESI).

• Prepare factual chronology and timelines.

• May draft pleadings related to all courts and agency filings and other legal documents for attorney review.

• Prepare and file, including, but not limited to, enforcement documents such as abstracts, liens and renewals of judgements.

• Cite checking.

• Prepare deposition summaries and witness files.

• Assist with trial, arbitration, mediation, and hearing preparation.

• Organize exhibits and prepare exhibit binders.

• Communications and/or interviews with, but not limited to, clients, witnesses and class participants to develop case analysis and draft declarations.

• Obtain records and supporting documentation for client matters.

Oversee/administer/coordinate collections referrals and/or withdrawal liability matters from Trust Funds clients, including but not limited to, contributions, payroll compliance testing, third party liability liens and pension withdrawal liability matters, from receipt to closing of the matters; responsibilities include opening of the matter and gathering all relevant documents, communicating with shareholder to assign matters, drafting demands, notices of pension withdrawal liability and responses to requests for information/documents, coordination with working attorneys to move the matter forward, communicating with plan professionals during all stages of matter and for status; creating, maintaining and updating status reports for inclusion in the meeting materials for client meetings

• Assist attorneys in preparation for quarterly client meetings, including, but not limited to preparing agendas and meeting materials as well as drafting minutes as needed and creating charts/ summaries/slides for special projects

• Review correspondence and documents from clients and plan professionals regarding various matters, including but not limited to, compliance, meeting preparations and review of contracts to ensure deadlines are met; communicate with client as needed

• File preparation and/or management of Trust Funds matters (hard copy and electronic copy), including, but not limited to, reviewing correspondence, scanning, copying, mailing and administrative duties as needed.

• Supervision of docket/calendar and back-up as needed.

Qualifications

• Paralegal certificate, associate degree, or equivalent experience.

• Minimum of 5-9 years of relevant paralegal experience and/or relevant WRR legal assistant experience.

• Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.

• Advanced proficiency with legal research platforms and case management systems.

Senior Paralegal

Senior paralegals are expected to perform all Paralegal tasks in addition to training and workflow management. Senior paralegals shall have at least 10 years’ relevant paralegal experience.
