Job Summary

American Metal Fabricators is seeking a motivated and dependable Fabricator to join our team in Gastonia, NC. This is a hands-on position that may involve a combination of fabrication, assembly, panel building, material cutting, and general shop support duties. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude, experience working with tools and fabrication equipment, and the ability to read and interpret drawings and measurements accurately.

Candidates must be able to read a tape measure accurately to 1/16".


This position offers the opportunity to work in multiple areas of our manufacturing process and learn a variety of fabrication skills in a fast-paced production environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Panel Building

  • Assemble insulated metal panels by spraying adhesive onto sheets of metal.
  • Apply pre-cut foam borders and pair metal sheets together to create panel shells.
  • Follow drawings and work instructions to ensure panels meet specifications.
  • Inspect completed assemblies for quality and accuracy.
Panel Pouring

  • Assist with the panel pouring process, including removing panels from jigs and preparing materials.
  • Work in a heated production environment.
  • Lift, move, and position materials weighing up to 50 pounds or more.
  • Maintain production pace while adhering to safety and quality standards.
Shearing

  • Read shear lists, drawings, and work orders.
  • Cut metal materials to required dimensions using shearing equipment.
  • Verify measurements and material specifications before processing.
  • Maintain accuracy and minimize material waste.
Assembly

  • Assemble fabricated parts and finished products according to drawings and specifications.
  • Build enclosures and other products using foam panels and fabricated components.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and measuring devices to ensure proper fit and function.
  • Perform quality checks throughout the assembly process.
General Fabrication Duties

  • Roll, drill, grind, deburr, and finish fabricated parts as needed.
  • Assist press brake operators and other production personnel.
  • Operate forklifts and material-handling equipment (training provided if necessary).
  • Assist with shop maintenance and housekeeping.
  • Support production activities wherever needed to meet customer delivery requirements.
  • Industrial painting experience is a plus.
Required Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to read a tape measure accurately to 1/16 inch.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of fabrication processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, work orders, and production instructions.
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliable attendance and strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous fabrication, manufacturing, assembly, or sheet metal experience.
  • Experience operating shears, press brakes, forklifts, or other fabrication equipment.
  • Experience with industrial painting.
  • Experience reading fabrication drawings and blueprints.
Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Fabrication, manufacturing, assembly, construction, or related experience preferred.
  • Willing to train motivated candidates with strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to read a tape measure accurately.
