Job Description

Job Description

Karman Space & Defense is a leader in the rapid design, development, and production of critical, next-generation system solutions that align with the U.S. Department of War and its allies’ core mission priorities, and meet the accelerating demand for access to space. Building on nearly 50 years of success, we deliver Payload & Protection Systems, Aero/Hydrodynamic Interstage Systems, and Propulsion & Launch Systems to more than 80 prime contractors supporting over 130 space and defense programs.

This role is part of our Hypersonics and Strategic Missile Defense business, which designs, develops, and delivers highly dependable missile systems for hypersonic and strategic missile defense missions. We provide integrated, mission-ready hardware that brings together multiple technologies into unified systems engineered to perform in demanding operational environments. Our tip-to-tail capabilities include payload protection and deployment systems, propulsion systems, aerodynamic interstage systems, separation systems, missile subsystems, shroud systems, launch systems, and payload integration solutions.

In this role, you will lead and grow a high-performing analysis team focused on structural and dynamic evaluation of metallic mechanisms and integrated assemblies. You will drive execution across active programs, guide proposal efforts, and build scalable workflows that strengthen alignment between analysis, design, and manufacturing. As Karman expands into computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and aerothermal domains and deploys new high‑performance computing (HPC) infrastructure, you will help mature tools, processes, and team capabilities while developing analysts to support a disciplined, execution‑focused organization.

Responsibilities

  • Leads a team of analysts performing structural and dynamic analysis of metallic mechanisms and integrated assemblies.
  • Scopes and prioritizes analysis efforts in partnership with design, systems, and manufacturing teams.
  • Develops clear analysis plans, priorities, and deliverables aligned to program needs.
  • Establishes standardized analysis workflows and efficient modeling practices.
  • Provides technical oversight on finite element analysis (FEA) methods, assumptions, and results quality.
  • Supports proposal development with technical inputs, estimates, and risk identification.
  • Interfaces with internal and external stakeholders and presents analysis results as needed.
  • Drives integration of new capabilities, including CFD and aerothermal analysis.
  • Leads adoption of on‑premises HPC resources to enhance analysis throughput and fidelity.
  • Mentors and develops analysts to strengthen technical depth and execution discipline.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in structural and/or dynamic analysis of metallic mechanisms or assemblies.
  • Experience leading teams or serving as a technical lead in a matrixed environment.
  • Strong proficiency with finite element analysis (FEA) tools such as Nastran or Ansys, including efficient model development practices.
  • Experience scoping and planning analysis work across multiple concurrent programs.
  • Ability to review, challenge, and guide analysis methods and results.
  • Experience supporting engineering proposals, including estimating and technical narratives.
  • Experience working cross‑functionally with design, systems, and manufacturing teams.
  • Ability to clearly communicate analysis results to technical and program audiences.
  • A current U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain one.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building or scaling analysis teams or capabilities.
  • Exposure to CFD or aerothermal analysis methods and associated tools.
  • Experience using HPC environments for large‑scale simulations.
  • Background in aerospace flight hardware or high‑reliability systems.
  • Experience presenting analysis results directly to customers or external stakeholders.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off
  • Health Savings Account (HSA) with company contribution
  • Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)
  • Company‑paid life and AD&D insurance
  • Short‑ and long‑term disability coverage
