JOB TITLE: Prevention Educator

DEPARTMENT/PROGRAM: Behavioral Health Services/Addiction Prevention

SUPERVISOR: Prevention Coordinator

Position Grade: 81 [ salary range: 22.54hr- 38.25hr commensurate with education and experience ]

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Under the general direction of the Prevention Program Manager, the Prevention Educator is responsible to provide treatment for youth and their families in community needing prevention addiction services. The Prevention Educator complies with OASAS Prevention guidelines in screening, education, referral, community collaboration and life skills enrichment/leadership development to build protective factors and reduce risk factors in Monroe County youth. The Prevention Educator will carry out all job responsibilities with fidelity and accountability to the Agencies Mission, Vision, Values, Guiding Principles and Strategic Plan.

OTHER RESPONSIBLITIES:

Exercises full compliance with the Agency’s Code of Conduct, all Agency policies and procedures and Federal and State laws and regulations. (Non-violence, social responsibility)

  • Maintains confidentiality and security for all client and staff related materials and/or records.

Identifies, becomes trained in and implements evidence based practices that are appropriate for the identified populations in need. (Social responsibility, growth and change)

• Maintains ongoing data regarding the OASAS Work Plan and reports progress in the WYTNESS System. (Social learning, growth and change)

• Complies with OASAS Prevention Guidelines in screening, education, referral, community collaboration and life skills enrichment/leadership development to build protective factors and reduce risk factors in Monroe County youth. (Growth and change, social responsibility)

Demonstrates, promotes and practices cultural competency toward clients and staff through respect and understanding achieved through training and Agency cultural activities. (Emotional intelligence, non-violence)

Assesses community needs, researches evidence-based practices, and provided programming to internal and external stakeholders. (Social responsibility, open communication)

Responsible for assisting in the development of the OASAS required prevention Work Plan and adherence to the Work Plan. (Open communication, growth and change)

Provides prevention programming to youth and families through single session, group and training settings. (Open communication, social learning)

Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders. (Open communication, social learning)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree required. CASAC, CPP, or CPS preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Experience working in the field of addiction prevention or treatment providing services to adolescents required. Experience providing trainings.

SKILLS: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to work with others and form collaborative relationships. Ability to prepare and provide presentation and lectures to youth, family and community members. Computer skills, organizational skills, and problem solving skills required.
