Key responsibilities include:
- Prepare survey drawings, maps, layouts, arrangements, and flow sheets using field data, sketches, existing utility mapping, and written or verbal direction
- Transform raw field data from survey crews into final maps and plans using Carlson software
- Import electronic field notes and upload, download, and reduce data-collector files as needed
- Prepare surfaces, finalize base maps, and complete revisions based on redlines while verifying quantities and accuracy
- Assist with construction stakeout layout and preparation of cut sheets
- Set up and maintain drawing files in accordance with company drafting standards and project requirements
- Accurately execute markups and support the Project Surveyor, Survey Party Chief, Survey Manager, engineers, and other senior team members
- Help prepare field crews and equipment for survey assignments
- Support boundary, ALTA/NSPS land title, topographic, location, and as-built surveys, as well as construction stakeout, GPS, deed research, photogrammetric control, and hydraulic survey work
- Communicate with crew members and supervisors to help keep projects on schedule and within budget
- Maintain clean, legible field notes and proper project documentation
- Follow company, client, local, state, and federal safety requirements, including proper use and care of personal protective equipment
- Help maintain, clean, and care for survey vehicles, equipment, and other company property
- Five years of experience in the land surveying industry
- Bachelor of Science in geographic information systems (GIS) or a related field preferred
- Working knowledge of CAD concepts and an interest in developing proficiency with Carlson and other software used by J2
- Basic understanding of—or willingness to learn—survey equipment, geometry, field procedures, and data collection
- Ability to interpret field data, sketches, markups, and written and verbal instructions with attention to detail
- Strong organization, time-management, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative office and field team
