Addison Group is partnering with a mission-driven nonprofit organization seeking a Director of Philanthropy to establish and lead a newly created fundraising function. This individual will develop a comprehensive major donor strategy, strengthen corporate and community partnerships, and build sustainable fundraising initiatives that support multiple affiliate organizations. Job Description:
The Director of Philanthropy will serve as the organization's fundraising leader, responsible for creating and executing a major donor strategy while cultivating relationships with corporate partners, community organizations, and individual donors. This role will partner closely with executive leadership to build fundraising systems, oversee donor engagement, and support affiliate offices with philanthropic initiatives. The ideal candidate enjoys balancing strategy with hands-on execution and is comfortable serving as the face of fundraising while managing all aspects of donor relations and reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive major donor strategy with measurable goals and KPIs.
- Build, cultivate, and manage a portfolio of major donors and prospective supporters.
- Establish and strengthen partnerships with corporate sponsors, community organizations, and affiliate offices.
- Conduct face-to-face donor meetings and major gift solicitations.
- Collaborate with executive leadership to develop fundraising strategies and support local affiliate initiatives.
- Utilize CRM and donor management systems to track donor engagement, fundraising activity, and pipeline performance.
- Analyze fundraising data and prepare reports for leadership.
- Partner with internal communications teams to develop donor materials and highlight organizational impact.
- Identify program funding needs and communicate opportunities for philanthropic investment.
- Travel to affiliate offices to support fundraising initiatives and community outreach efforts.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Business, or a related field required.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in fundraising, philanthropy, donor relations, or nonprofit development.
- Proven success cultivating major donors and developing long-term fundraising strategies.
- Experience building fundraising systems, donor pipelines, and corporate partnerships.
- Nonprofit experience preferred.
- Experience with CRM or donor management platforms; Salesforce experience required and Blackbaud is a plus.
- Strong communication, relationship-building, project management, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with executive leadership across multiple departments.
- Willingness to travel approximately 25% (typically a couple of days per month) to affiliate offices in support of fundraising and community outreach activities.
Additional Details:

- Travel is primarily within Delaware, Florida, North Carolina, Colorado, Utah, and Virginia.
