About the Role:

The Lifeguard plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of all patrons at aquatic facilities by actively monitoring swimming areas and responding promptly to emergencies. This position requires vigilance, quick decision-making, and the ability to perform lifesaving techniques such as CPR and first aid to prevent accidents and injuries. Lifeguards also provide swim instruction and guidance to promote safe swimming practices and enhance the overall experience of visitors. The role involves maintaining a clean and safe environment, enforcing facility rules, and collaborating with team members to uphold high safety standards. Ultimately, the Lifeguard contributes to creating a secure and welcoming atmosphere where individuals of all ages can enjoy aquatic activities with confidence.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current certification in CPR/AED and First Aid from the American Red Cross or equivalent recognized organization.
  • Proven swimming ability and comfort in aquatic environments.
  • Completion of a certified lifeguard training program, preferably American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification.
  • Strong observational skills and the ability to remain alert for extended periods.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patrons and team members.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor swimming areas continuously to identify and respond to potential hazards or emergencies.
  • Perform rescues and administer CPR, AED, and first aid as necessary to assist individuals in distress.
  • Provide swim instruction and safety education to patrons to encourage responsible behavior in and around the water.
  • Enforce facility rules and regulations consistently to maintain a safe environment for all visitors.
  • Collaborate with team members to conduct safety drills, maintain equipment, and ensure compliance with health and safety standards.

Skills:

The required skills such as CPR/AED, First Aid, and swimming are essential for performing lifesaving interventions and ensuring immediate response to emergencies. Swim instruction skills enable the lifeguard to teach and guide patrons, enhancing their safety and confidence in the water. Teamwork is vital for coordinating with other staff members to maintain a secure environment and execute emergency procedures effectively. Knowledge of American Red Cross standards ensures adherence to nationally recognized safety protocols.
