Job Description
The Mortgage Associate Intern plays a key role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the Mortgage Department, contributing to the efficiency, accuracy, and compliance of mortgage lending activities across Origination, Processing, Closing, and Secondary functions.

Hours: Up to 40 hours per week between the hours of Monday - Friday between 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Schedule is flexible.

Specific duties include:

  • Origination Support:
    • Process and document application withdrawal requests, maintaining clear communication with internal teams.
    • Monitor and manage incoming online applications, ensuring timely data entry and routing to appropriate team members.
    • Prepare and send verifications of employment (VOEs), ensuring accuracy and compliance with investor and regulatory guidelines.
    • Conduct preliminary reviews of mortgage applications to confirm completeness, accuracy and readiness for origination.
  • Processing & Closing Support:
    • Conduct verifications of employment (VOEs) in accordance with investor and regulatory requirements, ensuring proper documentation and compliance
    • Set up automatic payments in the core banking system for closed loans, ensuring accuracy and timely activation.
    • Process borrower address changes in the core banking system, maintaining data integrity and servicing accuracy.
    • Assisting with loan boarding and disbursements in core operating system.
  • Secondary Market Support:
    • Assist with compiling and reviewing the daily position report to monitor pipeline activity and manage interest rate risk and exposure.
    • Evaluate market conditions to recommend daily rate adjustments and ensure timely posting of rates in relevant systems.
    • Develop and maintain a weekly competitor rate survey, providing market insights and analysis for distribution to the Mortgage Department to support pricing strategy and competitiveness.

    • Process rate lock requests accurately and promptly, maintaining compliance with investor guidelines and internal policies.
    • Assist in performing best-execution analysis to determine optimal investor delivery strategies, maximizing profitability and minimizing risk.
    • Create and distribute funding spreadsheets for sold loans to the accounting department, ensuring completeness and accuracy of data.
  • Conduct and assist with other duties and special projects as requested.
  • Must comply with all company policies and procedures, applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.
Experience

A minimum of one year customer service and/or administrative experience preferred.

Education/Certifications/Licenses

A high school degree or equivalent.

Courtesy and tact are essential elements of the job. Work involves personal contact with customers and others inside and outside the organization, generally regarding fairly routine matters for the purposes of giving and obtaining information or instructions, updating or referring. Communications generally require shorter and not in-depth discussions. Excellent communication skills to effectively and professionally communicate with members and team.

Physical Requirements

Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. Must be capable of climbing/descending stairs in emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.

Working Conditions

Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work environment with moderate noise.

Mental and/or Emotional Requirements

Must be able to perform job functions independently and with limited supervision. Must work effectively as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be able to perform basic financial calculations with accuracy. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under stress of deadline, requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on confidential matters.
