Job Title: Pipefitter Improver

Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated Pipefitter Improver with a minimum of 2 years of marine, shipyard, or industrial pipefitting experience to support first-class pipefitters in the installation, repair, modification, and testing of piping systems aboard U.S. Navy and commercial vessels. The ideal candidate will possess a strong work ethic, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to safely perform work in a fast-paced shipyard environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist Pipefitters with the installation, repair, and modification of piping systems aboard vessels and in industrial facilities.
  • Read and interpret basic blueprints, piping drawings, work packages, and isometric sketches.
  • Measure, cut, bevel, thread, and prepare carbon steel, stainless steel, copper-nickel, PVC, and other piping materials.
  • Perform pipe fit-up and alignment while maintaining proper tolerances.
  • Install valves, flanges, gaskets, supports, and pipe hangers.
  • Assist with hydrostatic, pneumatic, and leak testing of piping systems.
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, grinders, band saws, threading machines, and beveling equipment.
  • Remove and replace damaged piping systems as directed.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards and ensure work areas remain clean and organized.
  • Follow all OSHA, NAVSEA, customer, and company safety policies.
  • Work in confined spaces, elevated locations, and varying weather conditions.
  • Support production schedules by working overtime, weekends, and multiple shifts as required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of pipefitting experience in a shipyard, marine, industrial, or commercial environment.
  • Ability to read tape measures and perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Experience reading and interpreting basic blueprints and drawings.
  • Familiarity with common piping materials, fittings, valves, and installation methods.
  • Experience using hand and power tools safely.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Reliable transportation to and from the jobsite.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in a U.S. Navy or commercial shipyard.
  • OSHA 10 Maritime or Construction certification.
  • Fire Watch and Confined Space certifications.
  • Forklift, Aerial Lift, or Rigging certifications.
  • Existing DBIDS or other shipyard access credentials (preferred but not required).
Physical Requirements
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Climb ladders, work at heights, kneel, crouch, crawl, and work in confined spaces.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators when required.
