Role snapshot

Join our Kankakee, IL team on a Monday–Friday, first-shift schedule to keep a school bus fleet safe, compliant, and road-ready. You’ll handle everything from basic maintenance to full rebuilds — and you’ll be the go-to for electrical, HVAC, and accessibility systems.

What you’ll do
  • Service and repair gasoline/diesel buses: routine maintenance, minor fixes, and complete vehicle service.
  • Diagnose faults and run a disciplined preventive maintenance program.
  • Perform engine and transmission overhauls (major/minor).
  • Maintain/repair brakes, air compressors, fuel & ignition systems, HVAC, and wheelchair lifts.
  • Service vehicle A/C systems and execute DOT-compliant inspections and repairs on school buses.
  • Record time and materials for all work performed.
Preferred background
  • Medium-duty bus expertise; International Truck/Bus experience a plus.
  • Bring your own tools.
  • Knowledge of pupil transportation regulations and IDOT inspections.
  • CDL Class B with air brake endorsement preferred.
  • A/C Certification preferred.
  • Strong verbal/written communication for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven under deadline pressure; positive, customer-first mindset.
  • Independent worker who completes assignments on time.
