Join our Kankakee, IL team on a Monday–Friday, first-shift schedule to keep a school bus fleet safe, compliant, and road-ready. You’ll handle everything from basic maintenance to full rebuilds — and you’ll be the go-to for electrical, HVAC, and accessibility systems.
What you’ll do- Service and repair gasoline/diesel buses: routine maintenance, minor fixes, and complete vehicle service.
- Diagnose faults and run a disciplined preventive maintenance program.
- Perform engine and transmission overhauls (major/minor).
- Maintain/repair brakes, air compressors, fuel & ignition systems, HVAC, and wheelchair lifts.
- Service vehicle A/C systems and execute DOT-compliant inspections and repairs on school buses.
- Record time and materials for all work performed.
- Medium-duty bus expertise; International Truck/Bus experience a plus.
- Bring your own tools.
- Knowledge of pupil transportation regulations and IDOT inspections.
- CDL Class B with air brake endorsement preferred.
- A/C Certification preferred.
- Strong verbal/written communication for internal and external stakeholders.
- Proven under deadline pressure; positive, customer-first mindset.
- Independent worker who completes assignments on time.

- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance as attendance is an essential function of the position
- Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone
- Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs
