Job Description
TITLE: Primary Therapist
DEFINITION: The primary therapist is responsible for providing quality, ethical, and effective clinical services to the agency and the clients within the agency.
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Clinical Supervisor
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide clinical services in line with the agency's overall philosophy and mission statement.
Utilize and develop knowledge of the core functions of counseling.
Provide accurate and timely reports and record keeping in line with agency policies.
Have a clear understanding of the scope of practice for substance use disorder and mental health counseling
Have a clear understanding of the expectations of JCAHO state regulatory bodies.
Facilitate group and individual therapy, patient education, family contact and other therapy as needed.
Provide assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and counseling to patients.
Adhere to the code of ethics for mental health professionals
Participate in on-going CEU training, agency in-services, and staff meetings.
Utilize consultation and supervision from the clinical supervisor.
Other duties within and outside of these dimensions as they arise within scope of practice or this position and level of responsibility.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience/Training:
Must possess a license/certification to be able to practice counseling in the state of the facility.
Special Skills:
The ability to listen to and understand individuals in need of personal attention.
The ability to evaluate a client’s needs in dealing with alcoholism or other drug addiction or behavioral health related problems.
The ability to firmly recommend a treatment plan for each patient.
The ability to lead and facilitate group sessions of patients.
Knowledge:
An acute understanding of counseling and other treatment procedures for alcoholism, drug addiction and other behavioral health related problems.
A vast knowledge of regulations concerning alcoholism and drug addiction treatment.
Working knowledge of alcoholism, drug addiction and mental health treatment procedures for such illness.
Must have enthusiasm, compassion, tact, a sense for detail in the diagnosis and treatment of healthcare issues of those suffering from alcoholism, drug addiction and other behavioral health conditions .
Conditions of Employment:
This person must be of the conviction that substance use disorders and mental health conditions are treatable illnesses and constitute a public health problem.
This person must sign an oath of permanent confidentiality covering all patient related information.
This person must, on their own behalf, keep current all licensure and certifications that are applicable to their position
As with all other Midwest Recovery employees, the person in that position shall have no history or evidence of alcoholism or other drug misuse for a period of 1 year immediately prior to the date of employment, and no misuse of alcohol or other drugs while employed with our agency.
The staff member shall sign and date this job description to affirm the validity of the information herein .The CEO shall also sign and date the job description to signify compliance with the conditions of employment, minimum qualifications, and an understanding of the job responsibilities.
