Project Manager Substation Engineer

Engineering Partners (EPI) is a well-known engineering company in San Diego with utility, municipality, and government contracts focusing on electrical and power engineering.
We are currently seeking an experienced Electrical Substation Engineer with a BSEE degree, PE licensed, and have 10+ years of recent relevant experience in Substation Design.
Duties and responsibilities of an Electrical Engineer
· Prepare reports that present technical and project information in a clear and concise manner to meet client requirements.
· Engineer HV substation projects from conceptual design through construction.
· Prepare electrical design packages consisting of One-line, three-lines, wiring diagrams, control schematics, Site Plan, Electrical Plan & Sections, Grounding Plan & Details, Conduit Plan and Details, Control House Plan, Control House Grounding Plan & Details, Lighting Plan, Lightning Protection Plans.
· Coordinate with Designers and Engineers of other disciplines to complete deliverables.
· Interpret and incorporate vendor information into design deliverables.
· Perform QA/QC of electrical engineering design packages.
· Provide regular progress updates and reporting on project deliverables.
· Develop single line and three line diagrams for protection and controls of Substation equipment and medium voltage switchgear.
· Provide Substation Physical drawings and develop substation equipment BOMs.
· Provide Substation equipment specifications.
· Provide engineering and technical support, and reviews to field crews during construction.
· Perform electrical calculations/studies, ampacity, reactive power/load flow, losses, lightning assessment, grounding mat studies, short circuit, coordination studies, arc-flash, AC/DC studies, and harmonics studies.

Qualifications of an Electrical Engineer
• BS Electrical Engineering – required.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) – required.
• Minimum 10+ years of experience required in substation design and project management.
• Proficient in various areas of substation engineering such as civil, structural, mechanical, fire, and protection and controls.
· Strong understanding of substation electrical calculations.
· Ability to visualize and evaluate equipment details, phase-to-ground, phase-to-phase clearances, and drawings (physical substation design)
· Knowledge of industry specifications for HV electrical equipment.
· Familiar with international and North American electrical codes and regulations.
· Proven ability to work collaboratively with multi-discipline teams to deliver projects on time and on budget.
· U.S. Citizenship or Legal Permanent Resident status required.
· Understanding of Power Systems analysis and related software packages (e.g. SKM, ETAP, etc.)
· Familiarity with AutoCAD.
Salary Range of a PM Substation Engineer
· $140,000 - $200,000+/annual salary, commensurate with experience
· Hybrid Work: Monday through Thursday in San Diego Office, Friday optional remote.
