Insurance Agent Protege

The Protégé Program is a comprehensive, mentorship-driven path designed for motivated professionals with transferable skills who want to build a long-term career in the insurance industry, with the guidance of an experienced agent-mentor. You'll be paired directly with a mentor who will teach you the full scope of the business — from selling insurance and servicing clients to understanding how a successful insurance practice runs day to day. Compensation includes base pay plus a commission split during the mentorship period. As you progress and complete the program, Farmers will support your next steps with additional training, resources, and guidance.

• Present and explain insurance products and coverage options to prospective and existing clients
• Determine client needs and financial situations through fact-finding conversations, and recommend appropriate coverage
• Generate and manage a pipeline of leads through referrals, networking, and community outreach
• Conduct consistent, timely follow-up with prospects to move them through the sales process
• Service existing policies, including handling coverage reviews, updates, and renewals
• Process new business applications and required documentation accurately and in line with company standards
• Build long-term client relationships through responsive, high-quality service and communication
• Participate in structured classroom-style and hands-on training covering sales techniques, product knowledge, and day-to-day agency operations
• Shadow and learn directly from an assigned mentor agent to gain real-world experience in running an insurance practice

• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Transferable skills from prior work experience (sales, client-facing roles, relationship management, etc.)
• Resilient, adaptable, and career-oriented mindset
• Comfortable building rapport and trust with new people
• Willing to obtain (or already hold) required insurance licenses
• Must pass a background check
