Peerstar, LLC is seeking a detail-oriented, energetic HR Generalist with Payroll experience to manage our daily human resources operations and end-to-end payroll administration. This role is a fantastic opportunity for an HR professional with 1 to 3 years of experience who wants to take full ownership of payroll while expanding their skills in employee relations, onboarding, and compliance.

Job Summary

The HR Generalist will act as the primary point of contact for employees regarding payroll questions, benefits, and workplace policies. You will split your time between traditional human resources tasks and processing our regular payroll cycles accurately and on time.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll & Benefits Administration

  • Process bi-weekly, accurate hourly and salaried payroll operations.

  • Manage time-tracking systems, deductions, bonus calculations, and overtime tracking.

  • Resolve any payroll discrepancies or employee check inquiries immediately.

  • Administer health, dental, and retirement benefits during annual open enrollment.

Core HR Operations

  • Coordinate the full onboarding pipeline, including background checks and new-hire orientation.

  • Maintain accurate, highly secure digital employee files within our HRIS software.

  • Help managers interpret company policies and update the employee handbook.

  • Support management in resolving minor employee relations issues and conflict mediation.

Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure strict compliance with local, state, and federal labor laws.

  • Assist with regulatory tracking for leaves of absence, including FMLA and short-term disability.

  • Run standard HR metrics reports, including headcount, turnover, and payroll allocations.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: 1–3 years of dedicated experience working within a corporate HR department.

  • Payroll Skills: Minimum 1 year of direct experience executing or heavily assisting with payroll.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required.

  • Software: Hands-on familiarity with HRIS and payroll tools.

  • Soft Skills: Exceptional discretion when handling highly confidential financial and personal data.

  • Knowledge: Foundational understanding of employment laws.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Intermediate Excel skills, including formulas, VLOOKUPs, and pivot tables.

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, or similar

Position Status: Exempt

Location: On site, Clifton, NJ

Pay Range: $70,000 to $ 75,000 D.O.E.
