Receptionist/Unit Secretary/Office Assistant


MAIN FUNCTION:

Performs receptionist and clerical duties on the nursing units.

Follows WCH Nursing Philosophy and practice model which are derived from the Synergy model and appropriate Service Standards as outlined in Employee Handbook.


RESPONSIBLE TO: Department Manager, Charge Nurses, RN staff


MUST HAVE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Ability to transport patients and run errands
  • Proper telephone etiquette, clear diction, good penmanship, personal computer experience and keyboard skills
  • Medical terminology
  • Ability to function in a fast paced environment


PREFERRED ATTRIBUTES:

  • Current Nursing Unit experience as secretary or receptionist


OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Employees in this position may be:

  • Exposed to blood, body fluids and/or airborne pathogens and are required to wear personal protective equipment
  • Employees in this position must be able to push, pull, lift, carry, turn, crouch, and bend as necessary to complete typical secretarial duties
  • Required to take "on call" status
  • Reassigned to another unit to perform receptionist duties within current job description
  • Subject to STHR (short term hour reduction) according to policy

DUTIES:

  1. Maintains appropriate clerical skills:
  • Processes transfers and discharges according to procedure
    • Prepares patient charts for all types of patients including special procedures; obtains appropriate consent form for chart and notifies appropriate personnel
    • Obtains patient's previous charts as ordered
    • Accurately enters orders using correct order source
    • Accurately enters charges daily into computer for all patients
    • Processes bed assignment and changes according to procedure. Verifies floor census daily. Keeps census record updated on an ongoing basis.
    • Answers phone and intercom promptly and courteously. Relays pertinent information in timely manner.
    • Contacts, coordinates calls to other hospitals, physicians, transport services, squads, clergy, law enforcement, mental health, industries, Health Department, Children’s Services and other outside persons/agencies as indicated
    • Independently coordinates flow of testing and treatments by various departments according to patient needs
    • Performs filing, photocopying, assembling and distributing printed materials and communication for manager


Wound Center Office Assistant


MAIN FUNCTION:

Works under the direction of the Program Director to ensure smooth and effective operations of the clerical, billing, admission/registration, and patient scheduling aspects of the Wound Healing Center. Assists with the database as necessary.

RESPONSIBLE TO: Wound Center Director

MUST HAVE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma
  • Computer literacy required, including the use of Word & Excel
  • Positive interpersonal relationship skills
  • No written disciplinary action within the last 12 months

PREFERRED ATTRIBUTES:

  • Previous office administration experience
  • Associates Degree
