About MECC

Morgan’s Early Care Connection (MECC) is a relationship-centered, play-based early childhood program grounded in community, emotional development, and respect for children. We prioritize outdoor learning, social-emotional growth, and collaborative classroom environments. Our team values flexibility, professionalism, warmth, and a shared commitment to high standards of care.

Position Overview

The Afternoon Floater serves as a key support person across classrooms and is an essential part of our closing team. This role ensures smooth transitions, consistent ratios, and a calm, organized end-of-day environment for children, families, and staff.

The ideal candidate is steady, observant, responsive, and comfortable moving between age groups (infants through preschool). This person thrives in dynamic environments and understands that closing sets the tone for family communication and daily continuity.

Core Responsibilities

Classroom Support

  • Float between classrooms to maintain ratios and provide coverage during breaks and transitions
  • Support children with play, routines, toileting, handwashing, and end-of-day transitions
  • Assist with snack distribution and cleanup
  • Provide emotional co-regulation and support as children wind down

Closing Duties

  • Consolidate classrooms as enrollment numbers decrease
  • Support dismissal and family pick-up procedures
  • Communicate brief daily highlights to families as needed
  • Reset classrooms for the next day (tidying materials, sanitizing surfaces, organizing supplies)
  • Ensure lights, doors, gates, and security procedures are properly completed
  • Take out trash and assist with end-of-day cleaning checklist

Team Collaboration

  • Follow lead teacher guidance when supporting in classrooms
  • Maintain clear communication with site leadership
  • Model professionalism, calm energy, and consistency

Qualifications

  • Experience working with young children (infant–5 years preferred)
  • Comfortable working across multiple classrooms and age groups
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to independently manage closing procedures
  • Warm, patient, and emotionally attuned
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and engage actively indoors and outdoors
  • CPR/First Aid certified (or willing to obtain)
  • Must meet Bright from the Start background check requirements

Ideal Qualities

  • Calm under pressure
  • Strong situational awareness
  • Comfortable with outdoor play in varied weather
  • Clear communicator with families and staff
  • Takes initiative without overstepping classroom leadership

Why This Role Matters

The closer is often the last impression families have each day. This role requires maturity, responsibility, and an understanding that small details — a clean classroom, a calm goodbye, clear communication — build trust over time.
