Ultrasound Technologist

Job Summary

Performs ultrasonic diagnostic procedures in accordance with accepted protocols as directed by physicians. Produces images of internal body tissues in order to diagnose and monitor a variety of conditions such as heart disease, pregnancy and cancer. Supervises and mentors ultrasound personnel. Maintains equipment.

Education & Experience
Diploma/certificate from an Ultrasound college/school (Required)

Licenses & Certifications
• ACR Accredited Sites: sonographers must be certified and currently registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certification in Abdomen (AB), Obstetrics (OB) or Vascular (RVT); or Cardiovascular Credentialing International Registered Vascular Specialist (CCI-RVS); or Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Sonography (S) or (VS) within one year of hire (Required in CA and HI (Preferred with multiple areas))
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy (Required)
• American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or CCI Registered Vascular Specialist (CCI RVS) or ARRT-Vascular Sonography (ARRT-VS) or ARRT-Sonography (ARRT-S) (Required)

Key Responsibilities
• Uses ultrasound equipment to direct high-frequency sound waves to a prescribed area of the patient's body and capture quality images that describe the composition, shape and motion of tissues, organs, vessels and pathology.
• Summarizes, documents, verifies and presents images, findings, calculations and measurements to physicians for diagnoses.
• Adheres to ultrasonic diagnostic procedures, precautions and standards.
• Provides direct patient care, including assessing patient condition and ability to cooperate.
• Positions patients and equipment, prepares patients for procedures and continually monitors and records vital signs.
• Observes for reactions and signs of impending complications and intervening as needed.
