We are looking for an experienced Corporate Tax Director/Manager to guide the tax strategy and compliance efforts of a growing construction-focused organization in Winston Salem, North Carolina. This leadership role blends strategic oversight with day-to-day execution, supporting corporate tax reporting, multistate compliance, and business planning across a complex operating footprint. The ideal candidate brings strong technical tax knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to partner effectively with finance and executive leadership.

Responsibilities:
• Direct the company’s corporate tax activities, including compliance, planning, reporting, and overall tax risk oversight.
• Oversee the preparation and review of federal, state, and local tax filings, with particular attention to multistate income and franchise tax obligations.
• Lead the quarterly and annual tax provision process in accordance with ASC 740 and ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Assess the tax consequences of operational decisions, legal entity structures, contracts, and broader business initiatives.
• Advise on tax considerations relevant to construction and project-based operations, including fixed assets, job costing, and contract accounting matters.
• Track legislative and regulatory developments and communicate potential impacts and recommended actions to company leadership.
• Collaborate with accounting, finance, operations, and external tax advisors to execute tax strategies and support business objectives.
• Manage tax audits, notices, and authority inquiries by coordinating responses and maintaining strong documentation.
• Identify and implement opportunities to improve tax efficiency, strengthen internal controls, and build scalable tax processes.
• Mentor and develop tax team capabilities while establishing effective procedures to support continued growth.• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• CPA designation required; an advanced tax degree or JD is considered an advantage.
• At least 10 years of progressive tax experience, including leadership responsibility within a corporate tax function.
• Strong background in federal and multistate corporate tax compliance, planning, and reporting.
• Solid knowledge of ASC 740 and corporate income tax accounting principles.
• Experience supporting organizations in construction, engineering, contracting, or another project-driven industry is strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated success managing tax audits, working with external advisors, and partnering with senior cross-functional stakeholders.
• Excellent analytical, communication, leadership, and project management skills.
