Registered Nurse (RN) – Ambulatory Surgery Center


We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Ambulatory Surgery Center team 4 days per week. The RN will provide safe, high-quality patient care throughout the perioperative experience, including pre-operative assessment, procedure support, circulating duties, conscious/moderate sedation, and post-operative recovery, as applicable.


The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently in a fast-paced outpatient environment and has experience with IV placement, perioperative nursing, and conscious/moderate sedation.


Responsibilities

  • Perform pre-operative nursing assessments and prepare patients for procedures.
  • Verify patient identification, allergies, medications, medical history, procedure, consent, and other required pre-procedure documentation.
  • Start and maintain peripheral IV access independently.
  • Administer medications and IV fluids in accordance with physician orders, facility policies, and scope of practice.
  • Assist with and/or monitor patients receiving conscious/moderate sedation in accordance with facility policy.
  • Continuously monitor and document patient condition, vital signs, pain level, oxygenation, and response to medications and procedures.
  • Perform OR/procedure room circulating responsibilities as assigned.
  • Participate in surgical/procedural time-outs and other patient-safety protocols.
  • Maintain sterile technique and support infection-prevention practices.
  • Recognize changes in patient condition and initiate appropriate interventions, including emergency response when necessary.
  • Provide post-procedure monitoring and recovery care.
  • Assess patients for discharge readiness according to established criteria and physician orders.
  • Provide patients and caregivers with clear post-operative and discharge instructions.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, anesthesia providers, clinical staff, patients, and families.
  • Accurately and completely document patient care in the medical record.
  • Assist with medication, supply, and emergency equipment checks as assigned.
  • Follow all facility policies, infection-control standards, patient-safety protocols, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in quality improvement, emergency preparedness, and staff education activities.
  • Perform other clinical duties within the RN scope of practice as assigned.


Qualifications

Required:

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Current and unrestricted California Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Current ACLS certification.
  • Experience with OR/procedure room circulating and/or conscious/moderate sedation.
  • Ability to independently initiate peripheral IV access.
  • Strong patient assessment and clinical decision-making skills.
  • Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced ambulatory surgery environment.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with physicians and other members of the clinical team.


Preferred:

  • Previous experience in an Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC), operating room, procedural setting, PACU, or perioperative nursing.
  • Experience caring for patients undergoing procedures with moderate/conscious sedation.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records and standard perioperative medical equipment.
  • PALS certification, if applicable to the facility's patient population.

The RN is expected to maintain patient safety and confidentiality at all times, follow established clinical protocols and facility policies, and provide professional, compassionate care throughout the patient's surgical/procedural experience.
