This position requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, sound judgment, and a commitment to accuracy and quality.The successful candidate will perform a variety of laboratory procedures, analyze and report test results, maintain quality control standards, operate and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation, and follow all applicable laboratory policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.Position DetailsPosition: MLT / MT / MLSDepartment: LaboratoryLocation: Gateway Regional Medical Center, 2100 Madison Ave., Granite City, IL 62040Position Status: Full-TimeSchedule: OvernightHours: 80 hours per pay periodShift: 10-hour shiftsWhat You'll DoPerform routine and specialized laboratory testing according to established procedures.Analyze specimens and accurately report laboratory results.Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and instrumentation.Perform quality control procedures and recognize and address quality control issues.Follow established laboratory protocols to ensure accurate and timely test results.Collect, process, and prepare specimens for testing as required.Recognize abnormal or critical laboratory results and follow appropriate notification procedures.Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation.Follow applicable safety, infection prevention, and regulatory requirements.Maintain compliance with CLIA and other applicable laboratory standards.Assist with inventory management and maintaining adequate laboratory supplies.Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, laboratory staff, and other healthcare professionals.Participate in quality improvement activities and departmental initiatives.Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.Perform additional laboratory duties as assigned.Education QualificationsMedical Laboratory Technician (MLT)Required education must meet applicable CLIA requirements and include one of the following:Associate degree from a Medical Laboratory Technician program from an accredited institution, including courses in chemistry and biology; orAssociate degree of at least 60 semester hours from an accredited institution, including chemistry and biology, plus a 12-month structured curriculum in medical laboratory techniques, which may have been part of a collegiate program; orAssociate degree or equivalent from an accredited institution, including courses in chemistry and biology, plus graduation from a military medical laboratory training program of at least 12 months.Medical Technologist / Medical Laboratory Scientist (MT/MLS)Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution; orCompletion of an approved ASCP or equivalent certification pathway; orSatisfied applicable CLIA requirements for HEW certification.Completion of one year in an accredited laboratory training program.Certification QualificationsMLT CandidatesCertification eligibility as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) through ASCP, AMT, HEW, CLS (NCA), or an equivalent certification pathway is required for individuals who completed certification requirements in 2004 or later.Registry/certification is recommended within 12 months of completion of school or training, or equivalent education documentation consistent with CLIA standards.Individuals who qualified for certification prior to December 31, 2003, are not required to maintain yearly certification.MT/MLS CandidatesCertification eligibility as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) through ASCP, Medical Technologist (MT) through AMT, HEW, CLS (NCA), or an equivalent certification pathway is required for individuals who completed certification requirements in 2004 or later.Certification is preferred within 12 months of completion of school or training, or equivalent education documentation consistent with CLIA standards.Individuals who qualified for certification prior to December 31, 2003, are not required to maintain yearly certification.What We're Looking ForPrevious laboratory experience preferred.New graduates are welcome to apply.Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.Ability to work independently and effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet established deadlines.Effective verbal and written communication skills.Commitment to patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.Ability to work collaboratively with laboratory and interdisciplinary healthcare teams.What We OfferAt Gateway Regional Medical Center, we believe in supporting our employees both professionally and personally.
