Litigation Associate
Location: San Francisco, California
Work Arrangement: Hybrid (Remote/In-Office)

Cooper & Scully, P.C. is seeking a motivated Litigation Associate to join our San Francisco office. This hybrid position offers an excellent opportunity for an attorney seeking meaningful litigation responsibility, hands-on trial experience, and long-term career growth within a collaborative and entrepreneurial environment.

The successful candidate will work closely with experienced shareholders representing healthcare providers, hospitals, insurers, and other clients in medical malpractice and personal injury defense matters. This position is designed for a lawyer who is interested in developing into a leadership role, with a path toward shareholder consideration over time.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all phases of litigation under attorney supervision and increasing levels of independence.
  • Conduct and defend depositions.
  • Work with expert witnesses and consultants.
  • Draft motions, pleadings, discovery, and legal memoranda.
  • Attend hearings, mediations, and settlement conferences.
  • Participate in trial preparation and serve in a second-chair trial capacity.
  • Develop client relationships and contribute to strategic case planning.
  • Handle day-to-day litigation responsibilities for sophisticated institutional clients.

Qualifications

  • Active membership in the California State Bar in good standing.
  • Preferred experience level: 2-5 years of litigation experience.
  • Medical malpractice defense and/or personal injury defense experience is preferred.
  • Strong legal research, writing, advocacy, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple matters and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to client service and professional development.

Compensation

Annual Salary Range: $135,000 - $150,000

The salary range listed above is a good-faith estimate of the compensation Cooper & Scully, P.C. reasonably expects to pay for this position at the time of hire. Actual compensation will depend on qualifications, experience, skills, education, and business needs.
