Job Summary:
As the Field Inspector (Construction Quality Control), you will ultimately be responsible for inspecting telecommunications construction work, verifying compliance with quality standards, and documenting field activities. You will perform field inspections, coordinate with construction personnel, and deliver accurate reporting to ensure successful project execution. As the Field Inspector (Construction Quality Control), your customers are construction managers, field personnel, subcontractors, telecommunications clients, and government agencies, and you will make meaningful contributions to the company's success through quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and accurate field documentation.
Key Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):
- Travel daily to assigned project locations and conduct field inspections
- Inspect cable and fiber installation, splicing activities, and telecommunications construction work completed by employees and subcontractors
- Document inspection findings and prepare accurate field reports
- Attend field meetings with construction personnel, government agencies, and contractors
- Operate and maintain field equipment including laptops, iPads, cameras, height sticks, and personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Perform invoicing activities and manage subcontractor work orders as assigned
- Ensure construction activities comply with company, customer, and industry quality standards
- Additional responsibilities within functional scope based on business needs
Required Qualifications:
Education, Licensing, and Certifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- OSHA 30 Certification
- Valid driver's license with a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
Experience
- Experience performing telecommunications construction inspections preferred
- Extensive knowledge of outside plant (OSP) and inside plant (ISP) telecommunications engineering standards, construction techniques, and blueprint interpretation
- Experience working with construction quality control processes preferred
Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of OSP and ISP telecommunications construction standards
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, construction documents, and blueprints
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving abilities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, Google Earth, and proprietary software applications
- Ability to edit documents, upload files, and prepare detailed inspection reports
- Ability to work independently while coordinating with multiple project stakeholders
- Ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call assignments
- Ability to work safely in confined spaces and at elevated heights, including poles, ladders, and hydraulic lift buckets
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting telecommunications or utility construction projects
- Experience with construction quality control and inspection reporting
- Familiarity with customer construction standards and regulatory requirements
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to travel daily to active construction sites
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors under varying weather conditions
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, climb, push, pull, and twist for extended periods
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work around heavy equipment and construction machinery
- Ability to maintain visual and audible awareness of personnel, vehicles, and equipment to support safe work practices
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety boots, hard hat, safety glasses, and other required safety gear
- Ability to work in confined spaces and at elevated heights as required
