Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Job Description
Heavy Equipment Mechanic (2nd Shift)
Build it. Fix it. Keep it moving.
If you’re the kind of person who can hear a machine and know something’s off… if you take pride in getting massive equipment back up and running… and if sitting behind a desk sounds like your worst nightmare… keep reading.
We’re looking for a hands-on, experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join the team at Reading Anthracite Company. This is 2nd shift, boots-on-the-ground work where no two days look the same and your skills actually matter.
This isn’t just a job. You’re the reason the operation keeps moving.
What you’ll be doing (aka where you shine):
You’ll be out in the field working on powerful machines like loaders, excavators, haul trucks, and more. When something breaks, you’re the one people call.
• Troubleshoot and repair diesel, hydraulic, and electrical systems
• Perform routine maintenance that keeps equipment running strong
• Inspect equipment before and after use to catch issues early
• Partner with operators to understand problems and fix them right the first time
• Jump in on breakdowns and get things back up fast
• Keep clean, accurate service records because details matter
• Help manage parts and tools so you’re always ready for the next job
What you bring to the table:
You’ve been doing this for a while and you know your way around heavy equipment without hesitation.
• 3 to 5+ years working on heavy machinery like loaders, backhoes, or haul trucks
• Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems
• Ability to read schematics and manuals without second guessing
• Experience welding or fabricating is a big plus
• Comfortable working in tough environments and getting your hands dirty
• Valid driver’s license (CDL is a bonus, not a must)
What the job actually looks like:
This is real work in a real environment.
• You’ll be working outdoors at an active surface mine in Pottsville, PA
• Expect dust, noise, weather changes, and large equipment all around you
• You’ll be part of a traveling crew supporting nearby sites within about a 4 mile radius
• You’ll need your own tools and the drive to use them
Why this is worth it:
You’re not just turning wrenches, you’re part of something bigger.
• Competitive pay
• Full benefits package including medical, dental, life, and disability
• 401(k) with company match
• Paid time off and holidays
• A team that respects the work you do
