Assistant Cultural Resources Specialist
Location: North Scottsdale, AZ Project Duration: Approximately 3–6 weeks Anticipated Start: November/December 2026 Schedule: 6–7 days per week
We are seeking an Assistant Cultural Resources Specialist to support an upcoming archaeological survey project in North Scottsdale. The selected candidate will work as part of a multi-person field crew conducting cultural resource surveys on Arizona State Land Department lands.
Responsibilities
Conduct pedestrian cultural resource surveys in accordance with project requirements and established field procedures.
Assist with identifying, documenting, and recording archaeological and cultural resources.
Maintain accurate field notes, forms, photographs, and other project documentation.
Work collaboratively with crew members and follow the direction of the Crew Chief or Project Archaeologist.
Follow all project-specific safety, environmental, and cultural resource protocols.
Perform physically demanding fieldwork in desert terrain and variable weather conditions.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in archaeology, anthropology, or a closely related field preferred.
Previous archaeological fieldwork or cultural resource survey experience is preferred.
Experience working in Arizona or the Southwest is a plus.
Ability to walk extended distances over uneven desert terrain while carrying field equipment.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to work effectively as part of a field crew.
Must be available to work 6–7 days per week for approximately 3–6 weeks.
Must reside in the Phoenix metropolitan area or be able to commute daily to the project area.
Compensation and Travel
Hourly pay based on experience.
Work-related mileage will be reimbursed in accordance with company policy.
Hotel accommodations and per diem are not provided for this assignment.
