Upper School Teacher Announcement

Academics West is searching for a part-time HumanitiesTeacher for our Upper School who will be responsible for direct instruction that is designed to address goals and objectives specified in the students' Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and/or follow the NYS general education guidelines. The ideal candidate is bright, energetic and motivated to help children with learning and emotional challenges. The applicant will be committed to learning and infusing our Clinically Informed Academics model.

Start date: End of August 2026


Focus teacher's primary function is to educate our students using the most up-to-date pedagogy within their content area. Teachers are expected to engage students and assess their knowledge in academic content as defined within the course description. Educators will collaborate with the educational clinicians to develop and implement appropriate classroom management plans. It is expected that teachers will go beyond the classroom and model the Academics West mission and philosophy. These individuals are expected to have strong foundational knowledge of our CIA model and implement it within the classroom. Teachers will directly report to the Associate Director of Education and Head Coordinator.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and implement appropriate lesson plans and meet objectives.
  • Be a dynamic teacher who exhibits a love of learning and educating
  • Welcome potential new students and engage them as they complete trial days
  • Collaborate with Admissions Department with new onboarding students
  • Write weekly progress reports on each student
  • Responsible for classroom management oversight
  • Frequently consult with clinicians about student’s therapeutic needs
  • Review student’s neuropsychological report and other assessments to inform student instruction
  • Attend all student and staff meetings
  • Required to attend all Professional Development Days
  • Assess student progress as requested by Associate Director of Education
  • Nurture students as they develop both academic and prosocial skills in and out of the classroom

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or Master’s Degree preferred
  • Degree in Humanities (English, History, Philosophy)
  • 3 + years experience teaching students with special educations needs
  • Exceptional fund of knowledge in writing and literature

Work Hours:

  • Typically 5 hours a day during the week when school is open
