Job Description
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education/Experience/Licenses/Certificates/Eligibility: Central sterile or operating room experience required. Current BLS.
Eligibility: All employees must be able to provide proof of their identity and their right to work in the United States.

Interpersonal: Average communication skills. Demonstrates a positive, friendly and courteous manner. Demonstrates the ability to work well with other employees.
Critical Thinking: Ability to organize equipment, instruments and supplies. Ability to adhere to the work schedule and manage time appropriately. Ability to handle stress associated with prioritizing multiple tasks. Above average organization skills.
Knowledge: Working knowledge and experience in a hospital central sterile department, operating room or ambulatory surgery center. Knowledge of instrument names and their care and handling procedures. Sterilization and disinfection.
Machines, Equipment, Work Aids: Telephone and fax. Autoclave, ultrasonic cleaner, biological test incubator, medical gas canisters, surgical instruments, equipment, machinery and medical supplies.
Work Environment: Occasional overtime. Must handle stress in meeting time demands.

ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES / PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
Clinical Performance
- Wears appropriate attire in restricted areas.
- Adheres to recommended traffic patterns.
Provides Technical Support Service
- Anticipates the need for equipment and supplies.
- Selects equipment and supplies in an organized, cost effective and timely manner.
- Assures all equipment is functioning after use and removes any malfunctioning equipment.
- Demonstrates skill in appropriate use of instruments and equipment.
- Operates mechanical, electrical and air-powered equipment according to manufacturer’s instructions.
- Assures emergency equipment and supplies are available at all times.
- Keeps surgical suites clean, tidy, free of soiled equipment and supplies, and properly stocked.
- Transports patients to and from and within the facility.
Assists with preoperative patient preparation and postoperative patient discharge (e.g. changing clothes, providing nourishment).
- Assists with OR turnover and preparation of sterile supplies (e.g. opening, case pulling).
- Cleans and restocks anesthesia supplies as assigned.
- With additional training, may assist the surgical team as a second scrub person.
- Follow decontamination and sterilization per manufacturer instructions and facility policies and procedures.
- Maintains cleaning and sterilization logs per facility policy.
