Summary Works collaboratively with the on-call physician. Evaluates and treats medical and trauma patients in the Emergency Department or Urgent Care. Evaluates and manages all ages.Job DutiesThe essential functions of this job are identified with an asterisk (*) at the end of the bullet point.Customer Service:Focuses on patient communication and satisfaction at all times.Procedural Skills:Performs core emergency medicine procedures including but not limited to: Applies casts/splints, performs nail trephination, I & D, basic and complex laceration repairs.*Performs slit lamp exams and corneal FB removal.*Possesses basic airway skills, as well as venous and arterial catheterization and urinary catheterization.*Performs advanced skills under physician supervision including but not limited to: LP, RSI, endotracheal intubation, needle thoracotomy, insertion of chest tube, procedural sedation, cardio version/ defibrillation, surgical airway.*Management of the critically ill patient:Works with a physician and is able to manage cardiac arrest, major trauma and all levels of age and acuity hemodynamically unstable patients.*Manages the difficult airway presentation.*Data Interpretation:Interprets laboratory data in clinical context.*Interprets plain radiographs in clinical context.*Knows basic CT studies and their indications.*Possesses EKG interpretative skills*Forms working diagnosis based on patient presentation and available data.*Communication:Communicates with physician on-call.*Communicates effectively with staff.*Plan of care to patient and other involved parties.*Documentation:Documents patient visits according to industry standard utilizing appropriate resources (EHR) within 24 hours, preferably by end of shift.Documents disposition of abnormal radiographic and laboratory studies and communicates results to patient.Emergency Ultrasonography:Understands basic emergency ultrasonography exams: FAST, AAA, and limited thoracic sonography for pneumothorax.If not adequately training upon hire, will work to complete training within 18 months of arrivalOther DutiesPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. All will be expected to report unsafe conditions to a member of management.Required Education and ExperienceMust be a graduate of accredited PA program. Must be licensed as a Physician Assistant in the State of MN; DEA license.
