Key Purpose of the Role



Alatas Americas is looking for an experienced Mechanical Drafter / Designer to join our Engineering team. You will take ownership of mechanical layouts, 3D models and production drawings, helping transform practical engineering challenges into safe, cost-effective and manufacturable solutions.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create mechanical designs, equipment layouts, 3D models and detailed production drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Design and document cost-effective mechanical parts and assemblies, working closely with colleagues across other engineering disciplines.
  • Prepare clear test procedures and the supporting technical documentation required for Alatas Americas products.
  • Take hands-on measurements and collect field data to support reverse engineering and repair projects.
  • Contribute to the development of new products, improved production methods and practical engineering solutions.
  • Support the Business Development team with technical input for bids and proposals.
  • Collaborate effectively with engineers, technicians, fabricators and other skilled trades in a fast-paced environment.

What we are looking for

  • At least four years’ experience using SolidWorks for 3D modeling.
  • At least four years’ experience developing 3D models and producing accurate 2D manufacturing drawings.
  • At least four years’ experience in structural design and layout.
  • Strong working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) to ANSI/ASME Y14.5.
  • Experience in welding design to AWS D1.1 or substantial heavy structural design experience.
  • Familiarity with relevant engineering and industry standards, including ASME, API and AWS D1.1, together with classification society rules such as DNV and ABS.
  • Strong communication, organization and technical documentation skills, with professional spoken and written English.

Useful additional experience

  • PTC Creo or a comparable 3D CAD platform.
  • Mathcad and product data management (PDM) systems.
  • Crane systems, machinery construction, heavy equipment repair or related engineering environments.


Role Requirements


  • You must be based in, or able to commute reliably within, the Houston, Texas area.
