Position Summary
The Manufacturing Assembly Technician is responsible for the assembly, fitting, testing, troubleshooting, and inspection of precision mechanical and electro-mechanical products supporting Department of Defense (DoD) and commercial manufacturing programs. This position requires a skilled tradesperson capable of interpreting engineering drawings, assembling complex components, operating specialized equipment, and ensuring products meet strict quality and customer specifications.
The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently while maintaining the highest standards of workmanship, safety, and quality.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Assemble mechanical and electro-mechanical components from engineering drawings, work instructions, and assembly procedures.
- Utilize hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, hydraulic presses, arbor presses, torque tools, and measuring equipment.
- Perform precision fitting, drilling, tapping, reaming, fastening, staking, riveting, bonding, and press-fit operations.
- Install bearings, bushings, seals, pins, fasteners, springs, electrical connectors, and other precision components.
- Perform soldering, wiring, cable termination, and basic electrical assembly when required.
- Conduct continuity, resistance, insulation, functional, and operational testing using multimeters, test fixtures, and specialized testing equipment.
- Troubleshoot assembly issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Identify defective parts, nonconforming materials, and process improvements.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, assembly prints, bills of material (BOMs), and military specifications.
- Maintain accurate production records and inspection documentation.
- Verify dimensions using precision measuring instruments including:
- Calipers
- Micrometers
- Height gauges
- Pin gauges
- Thread gauges
- Torque measuring devices
- Work closely with Engineering, Machining, Quality, and Production departments to resolve manufacturing issues.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas following 5S principles.
- Follow all company safety procedures, quality standards, and DoD manufacturing requirements.
Required
- 3+ years of manufacturing or assembly experience.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings and blueprints.
- Experience using precision measuring equipment.
- Proficient with hand and power tools.
- Mechanical aptitude with strong troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Preferred
- Experience with Department of Defense manufacturing.
- IPC soldering experience.
- Experience with hydraulic or pneumatic assemblies.
- Experience assembling machined aluminum and steel components.
- Familiarity with military specifications and quality systems.
- Forklift and overhead crane experience.
- Basic computer skills for production documentation.
