Old Sturbridge Village is the largest outdoor history museum in the Northeast, spanning more than 200 scenic acres with over 40 original historic buildings, including homes, mills, trade shops, and a working farm. Our facilities team plays a vital role in preserving this unique living history museum while creating an exceptional experience for every guest.

Position Summary

Old Sturbridge Village is seeking a reliable and skilled Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join our Facilities team. In this hands-on role, you'll help maintain our historic campus through carpentry, repairs, preventive maintenance, snow removal, pest monitoring, and general facility support. This position reports to the Building Trades Manager and requires both independent work and collaboration with a close-knit maintenance team.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general building maintenance, repairs, and carpentry throughout the Village
  • Assist with plumbing, electrical, masonry, and mechanical maintenance projects
  • Monitor, document, and respond to pest activity using established safety procedures
  • Perform snow and ice removal during winter weather
  • Complete daily mail and supply runs on and off campus
  • Track maintenance requests using facilities management software
  • Maintain personal hand tools and properly use Village-owned power tools
  • Respond to emergency and after-hours maintenance calls as needed
  • Assist with occasional evening and weekend event support
  • Help maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for staff and visitors

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of general maintenance, facilities, or skilled trades experience
  • OSHA 10 Certification or willingness to obtain after hire
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Carpentry
    • Basic plumbing
    • Basic electrical systems
    • General building maintenance
  • Knowledge of safe pest control practices
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently
  • Team-oriented with the ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and reach
  • Regularly lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 80 pounds
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Occasionally work at elevated heights
  • Must possess close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

Schedule

  • Monday–Friday
  • 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM
  • Occasional evenings and weekends as needed
