We are looking for an experienced Controller to join a healthcare organization in Rochester, New York. This Long-term Contract position is ideal for a hands-on accounting leader who can oversee core financial operations, strengthen month-end close activities, and support a growing finance team. The role combines technical accounting work with day-to-day leadership responsibilities in a collaborative environment with onsite presence and some hybrid flexibility.
Responsibilities:
• Prepare and review accurate financial statements to support organizational reporting and decision-making.
• Record journal entries, post closing adjustments, and maintain the integrity of the general ledger.
• Lead the month-end close cycle by coordinating deadlines, reviewing outputs, and resolving accounting issues promptly.
• Perform account reconciliations and bank reconciliations to ensure completeness and accuracy across financial records.
• Identify and correct outstanding accounting discrepancies while improving overall cleanup and reconciliation efforts.
• Provide guidance and oversight to accounting staff across functions such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
• Support operational and managerial accounting activities by helping prioritize workflows and maintain strong internal controls.
• Contribute to future accounting system implementation efforts, including process support and coordination during the transition.
• Partner with leadership to maintain reliable financial reporting and strengthen day-to-day finance operations.• Approximately 5 or more years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibilities.
• Strong background in preparing and analyzing financial statements.
• Demonstrated experience with journal entries, month-end close, and closing adjustments.
• Proven ability to complete account reconciliations and bank reconciliations with a high level of accuracy.
• Prior management or team supervision experience within an accounting environment.
• Experience working with accounting software such as Great Plains; exposure to Sage is helpful.
• Ability to work effectively in an onsite setting with some flexibility for hybrid arrangements.
