Attorney/Lawyer

A Southfield law firm is seeking an experienced Appellate Attorney to manage civil appeals in Michigan state and federal courts. The ideal candidate will have excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills, with experience handling appellate matters from initial review through oral argument.

Responsibilities

• Research and analyze complex legal and procedural issues
• Draft appellate briefs, motions, and other court filings
• Review trial records and identify potential grounds for appeal
• Develop persuasive appellate strategies and arguments
• Handle oral arguments before state and federal appellate courts
• Ensure compliance with appellate rules, procedures, and deadlines
• Collaborate with trial attorneys and clients throughout the appellate process

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
• Active Michigan Bar membership in good standing
• 2+ years of experience
• Prior appellate, litigation, or judicial-clerkship experience
• Strong legal research, writing, and oral-advocacy skills
• Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage deadlines
• Experience with Michigan appellate courts strongly preferred
