We are looking for a Tax Accountant to join a public accounting firm in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. This position offers the opportunity to work on a broad range of tax and accounting engagements while contributing to high-quality client service and accurate financial reporting. The ideal candidate is comfortable managing multiple priorities, applying sound judgment, and collaborating with colleagues and clients in a deadline-driven environment.
Responsibilities:
• Handle a variety of tax and accounting projects with guidance from senior team members, including preparation, review support, and related client deliverables.
• Create organized workpapers and supporting documentation that clearly explain findings, calculations, and conclusions.
• Assist with engagement planning, scheduling, and progress tracking to help assignments stay on time and within expected budgets.
• Analyze financial records and statements to identify relevant tax and accounting issues and support accurate reporting.
• Prepare and record journal entries, reconcile general ledger activity, and support month-end close and account balancing processes.
• Respond to client questions in a timely manner and maintain strong working relationships through dependable, service-focused communication.
• Use accounting, tax, and spreadsheet software effectively in a paperless environment to complete assignments efficiently and accurately.
• Escalate unusual issues, anticipate potential roadblocks, and keep supervisors informed about engagement status, risks, and next steps.
• Support the firm's standards by protecting confidential information and demonstrating integrity and respect in all interactions.• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Accounting.
• Public accounting experience with exposure to individual, business, or annual tax work is preferred.
• CPA license, CPA eligibility, or active progress toward certification is required.
• Working knowledge of general ledger processes, journal entries, account reconciliations, and bank reconciliations.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and comfort using accounting and tax applications in a digital, paperless setting.
• Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret financial data accurately.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, along with strong organization and time management abilities.
• Ability to work extended hours during peak periods, travel occasionally for client needs, and meet the physical demands of an organized office environment.
