Robert Half is seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Specialist for a contract-to-hire opportunity with a well-established organization. This role is ideal for a payroll professional with extensive experience managing complex payroll functions across multiple states, union environments, certified payroll requirements, and Canadian payroll processing.


The Senior Payroll Specialist will be responsible for ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely payroll processing while serving as a key resource for payroll-related inquiries and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process full-cycle multi-state payroll for hourly and salaried employees.
  • Administer and maintain union payrolls, ensuring compliance with collective bargaining agreements.
  • Process certified payrolls, including compliance with Davis-Bacon prevailing wage requirements.
  • Prepare and submit payroll reporting through LCP Tracker.
  • Process and maintain Canadian payrolls in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Manage payroll deductions including garnishments, child support orders, tax levies, and wage attachments.
  • Audit payroll transactions for accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
  • Reconcile payroll data, deductions, taxes, and benefits.
  • Prepare payroll reports and support internal and external audits.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, deductions, and payroll-related issues.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and Canadian payroll regulations.


Qualifications

  • 5+ years of payroll experience with demonstrated expertise in complex payroll processing.
  • Strong working knowledge of all phases of multi-state payroll administration.
  • Experience processing union payrolls, certified payrolls, garnishments, child support, and Canadian payrolls.
  • Thorough understanding of Davis-Bacon and prevailing wage requirements.
  • Hands-on experience with LCP Tracker.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Strong understanding of payroll tax laws and compliance requirements.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation preferred.
  • Experience in construction, engineering, manufacturing, or other industries with certified payroll requirements.
  • Experience with payroll and HRIS systems.
