Controller
Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Controller to lead the accounting function for a growing organization in San Jose, California. This role will guide financial reporting, operational accounting, and planning activities across multiple business divisions while ensuring strong controls and reliable data. The ideal candidate brings deep construction accounting expertise, sound leadership skills, and the ability to translate financial results into actionable business insight.
Responsibilities:
• Direct the full scope of accounting activities, including ledger management, payables, receivables, payroll, fixed assets, project costing, and treasury-related processes.
• Supervise and develop an accounting team of eight, fostering accountability, technical growth, and consistent performance across the department.
• Oversee financial operations for multiple divisions and ensure reporting practices remain accurate, aligned, and dependable throughout the organization.
• Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close cycles, delivering complete and timely financial statements for leadership review.
• Provide executives with financial analysis, management reports, and key performance indicators to support informed decision-making.
• Establish and refine accounting policies, internal controls, and standard procedures to improve compliance and strengthen financial governance.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, cash flow oversight, and broader financial planning efforts to support operational and strategic objectives.
• Partner with operations and project teams to monitor job costing, revenue recognition, and project-level financial performance.
• Ensure adherence to applicable federal, state, and local financial reporting requirements and coordinate external audit activities.
• Drive process enhancements, support system optimization within Foundation Software, and contribute to acquisitions, implementations, and other strategic initiatives as needed.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.• At least 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibility within the construction industry.
• Prior experience serving as a Controller or Assistant Controller is strongly preferred.
• Strong command of financial reporting principles, construction accounting practices, and project-based revenue recognition.
• Demonstrated success managing accounting across multiple divisions, entities, or business units.
• Experience leading annual external audits and maintaining effective internal control environments.
• Proficiency with Foundation Software is highly preferred, along with advanced Microsoft Excel capabilities.
• CPA designation is preferred, and strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills are essential.
