Job Description

Night Supervisor – Assisted Living and Memory Care

Tucson Assisted Living Retreat | Tucson, Arizona

Tucson Assisted Living Retreat is hiring a dependable, experienced Night Supervisor to oversee our overnight operations and help create a stable, accountable, well-supported night team.

This is not simply a caregiver position.

We are looking for someone who can lead the shift, support caregivers and Med Techs, respond appropriately when problems arise, ensure resident care is completed, and keep the overnight operation running smoothly without automatically escalating every staffing or operational issue to daytime management.

Schedule - Overnight / Night Shift

Exact scheduled days will be based on facility needs and the candidate's consistent availability.

Weekend availability is strongly preferred.

The Person We Are Looking For

Our ideal Night Supervisor is someone who:

  • Is dependable and consistently reports for scheduled shifts
  • Is comfortable making decisions and taking responsibility
  • Can lead caregivers and Med Techs respectfully but firmly
  • Notices when resident care or assigned tasks are falling behind
  • Steps in appropriately when the team needs support
  • Holds staff accountable without creating unnecessary conflict
  • Communicates clearly with management
  • Remains calm during emergencies or unexpected staffing situations
  • Understands assisted living and memory-care operations
  • Can prioritize multiple resident and staffing needs at the same time
  • Documents concerns and follows through
  • Doesn't wait until the next morning to address problems that should be handled during the shift

Key Responsibilities

Lead the Overnight Team

  • Provide leadership and direction to overnight caregivers and Med Techs
  • Confirm staff are present, assigned appropriately, and working their responsibilities
  • Help coordinate resident-care assignments when staffing circumstances change
  • Address immediate staffing and workflow issues
  • Reinforce teamwork and accountability
  • Help prevent one dependable employee from carrying the workload for an entire shift

Ensure Resident Care Is Completed

Monitor completion of:

  • Toileting and incontinence care
  • Repositioning
  • Transfers
  • Safety checks
  • Overnight ADLs
  • Resident rounds
  • Call-light/resident requests
  • Documentation
  • Other assigned resident-care responsibilities

Identify missed care or concerns and address them during the shift.

Support High-Acuity and Memory-Care Residents

TALR cares for residents with significant physical and cognitive needs.

The Night Supervisor should be comfortable supporting residents who may require:

  • Memory care
  • Dementia support
  • Two-person assistance
  • Transfers
  • Mechanical/Hoyer lift assistance
  • Incontinence care
  • Behavioral redirection
  • Hospice/end-of-life support
  • Increased monitoring

Respond to Overnight Issues

The Night Supervisor may need to respond to:

  • Resident changes in condition
  • Falls or incidents
  • Behavioral concerns
  • Staffing problems
  • Call-offs
  • Family concerns
  • Emergency situations
  • Documentation issues
  • Care concerns discovered during the shift

The Night Supervisor must know when an issue can be appropriately handled by the overnight team and when management, emergency services, a provider, or another appropriate party needs to be notified.

Shift-to-Shift Communication

Provide accurate communication to incoming management and staff regarding:

  • Resident changes
  • Incidents
  • Staffing issues
  • Outstanding care needs
  • Medication concerns
  • Behavioral concerns
  • Maintenance/safety concerns
  • Follow-up items

We want the day team walking into an organized operation—not discovering overnight problems after the fact.

Required Qualifications

  • Current Arizona Assisted Living Caregiver certification
  • Appropriate medication-management qualification if performing Med Tech responsibilities
  • Current required caregiver/employment documentation
  • Fingerprint Clearance Card as required
  • CPR / First Aid as required
  • Reliable transportation
  • Ability to perform hands-on caregiver responsibilities when needed
  • Experience working in assisted living, memory care, senior care, behavioral health, or a related healthcare environment
  • Previous leadership, lead-caregiver, supervisor, house-manager, or Med Tech leadership experience strongly preferred

Strongly Preferred Experience

We are especially interested in candidates with experience in:

  • Assisted living
  • Memory care
  • Dementia care
  • Medication management
  • Caregiver supervision
  • Med Tech supervision
  • Staff scheduling/shift coordination
  • Incident response
  • Two-person transfers
  • Mechanical/Hoyer lifts
  • Hospice or end-of-life care
  • High-acuity resident care
  • Electronic care documentation

Reliability Is Essential

This role exists partly to strengthen the stability of TALR's overnight operation.

Someone cannot effectively supervise attendance and accountability if they are frequently absent themselves.

We understand that legitimate emergencies happen. However, this position requires someone who takes their schedule seriously and can consistently be counted on by residents, staff, and management.

Leadership at TALR

We are not looking for someone who believes supervision means sitting at a desk and giving orders.

A strong Night Supervisor should be willing to:

  • Lead from the floor
  • Coach staff
  • Help solve problems
  • Step into resident care when necessary
  • Make reasonable decisions
  • Communicate expectations clearly
  • Hold people accountable
  • Recognize when staff are overwhelmed
  • Escalate genuine emergencies appropriately

The goal is a night shift that operates as a strong, coordinated team.

Why Tucson Assisted Living Retreat?

Tucson Assisted Living Retreat provides assisted living and memory care in a smaller residential environment where our team can truly know our residents and provide highly individualized care.

This position offers an opportunity to have a meaningful impact on:

  • Resident care
  • Staff performance
  • Overnight operations
  • Team culture
  • Reliability
  • Communication between shifts

For the right person, this can be an important leadership role within TALR.

Hiring Process

Qualified candidates can move quickly through our process:

  1. Initial screening
  2. Verification of Arizona caregiver and applicable medication-management credentials
  3. Leadership interview
  4. Employment clearance and onboarding
  5. Start-date scheduling

If you are an experienced Arizona Certified Assisted Living Caregiver or Med Tech with leadership ability, enjoy overnight work, and want responsibility beyond simply completing your own assignment, we would like to speak with you.
