Position Summary:

The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for land development projects, including earthwork, underground utilities, road construction, and related site improvements. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of civil construction methods. The Estimator plays a critical role in winning new business and supporting project teams with detailed budgets, takeoffs, schedules, and cost data.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, and bid proposals for site development projects (residential, commercial, and industrial).

• Analyze civil engineering plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and bid documents.

• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure competitiveness and coverage.

• Develop pricing for earthwork, grading, utilities, paving, stormwater management, and erosion control.

• Work with project managers, engineers, and clients to develop value engineering solutions and cost-saving alternatives.

• Maintain historical cost data and develop cost databases for use in future estimates.

• Assist in preconstruction planning, budgeting, and schedule development.

• Participate in bid reviews, scope meetings, and project handoffs to operations teams.

• Stay up to date on market conditions, material pricing, labor trends, and construction methods.

• Any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• 3+ years of estimating experience in land development, civil/site construction, or related field.

• Strong understanding of site development processes including grading, utilities, and roadwork.

• Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Sage 100, HeavyBid, B2W, HCSS), takeoff tools (e.g., Planswift, AGTEK), and MS Excel.

• Ability to read and interpret civil construction drawings and technical specifications.

• Excellent attention to detail, organization, and time management skills.

• Strong communication skills for working with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams.

Preferred Skills:

• Familiarity with permitting, zoning, and development standards.

• Experience in both hard-bid and negotiated projects.

• Field experience in civil construction is a plus.

• Bilingual abilities.
