Position Summary

Hulsbosch Dairy Farm is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Dry Matter Sampling Technician to accurately collect, record, and communicate dry matter samples of forages and feed ingredients.

This role plays a critical part in maintaining consistent feed quality and supporting animal health, milk production, and overall farm performance. Accuracy, consistency, and strong communication are essential to success in this position.


Key Responsibilities

Sampling & Data Collection

  • Collect dry matter samples of silage, haylage, commodities, and other feed ingredients according to established protocols.
  • Ensure samples are collected consistently, accurately, and at scheduled intervals.
  • Properly label, store, and prepare samples for testing or analysis.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records of all sampling results.

Communication & Reporting

  • Report dry matter results clearly and promptly to the supervisor
  • Communicate any noticeable changes in feed quality, moisture, smell, texture, or appearance.
  • Support the feeding team by providing timely and reliable information for ration adjustments.

Equipment & Compliance

  • Maintain cleanliness and proper handling of sampling tools and equipment.
  • Follow all farm safety procedures, biosecurity protocols, and workplace policies.
  • Promote accuracy and accountability in feed management practices.


Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Familiarity with dairy operations or feed management preferred but not required (training provided).
  • Previous farm or agricultural experience is a plus.

  • High attention to detail and ability to follow standardized procedures
  • Basic math and record-keeping skills.

Work Environment

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift feed samples as needed.
  • Ability to safely navigate feed bunkers, commodity bays, and storage areas.
  • Comfortable working in a farm environment.

Schedule

  • Part-time position.
  • Hours and sampling frequency determined based on farm needs and feeding schedule.

Compensation

  • Hourly wage, commensurate with experience.
  • Training provided.
