While this position is not yet an active opening, we encourage you to submit your information now.Our recruiting team will review your background and may contact you as this or similar opportunities become available.Location: Tucker, GA, with travel to OPC power plants Department: Capital Projects & Technical ServicesRole SnapshotStart or advance your career in power generation with a hands-on controls engineering role at Oglethorpe Power.As a Controls Engineer Associate I or Controls Specialist I, you will work alongside experienced engineers and plant professionals while learning the systems that help keep Georgia's power generation fleet operating safely and reliably. You will gain exposure to control systems, plant equipment, technical projects, commissioning activities, cybersecurity practices, and preventive maintenance programs.This opportunity may be a strong fit for a recent engineering graduate, a current engineering student with relevant technical experience, or an experienced plant or controls professional looking to continue growing within an engineering organization.What You'll DoAssist with troubleshooting, routine plant support, and preventive and predictive maintenance activities.Learn and support distributed control systems, turbine control systems, programmable logic controllers, electrical systems, and plant equipment.Review basic engineering drawings and help maintain accurate technical documentation.Support senior engineers with Technical Services and capital projects.Participate in plant site visits, vendor coordination, factory and site acceptance testing, and equipment commissioning.Help prepare documentation supporting safety, compliance, system patching, cybersecurity hardening, and audit activities.Complete structured, hands-on training with guidance and mentoring from experienced engineering professionals.Research developing technologies and recommend ideas that may improve plant reliability, performance, or operations.What You BringYou are curious, safety-focused, and ready to learn. You enjoy solving technical problems, working with others, and spending time in both office and industrial plant environments.You should also bring:Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills.An interest in control systems, electrical testing, power generation, and plant operations.The ability to follow detailed instructions while gradually taking on greater responsibility.Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office.A valid driver's license that meets OPC's driver qualification requirements.Education & ExperienceCandidates may qualify through one of the following paths:A bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited institution, with electrical or power engineering preferred.Current enrollment in an accredited engineering program with relevant coursework and demonstrated technical skills.Approximately two to five years of relevant industry experience in engineering, control systems, technical services, power generation, or plant operations in place of a completed degree.Internships, co-ops, engineering coursework, and hands-on experience with DCS, PLC, electrical, or plant systems are valuable.Engineer in Training certification is preferred but not required.Work EnvironmentThis position includes approximately 40% travel, primarily to OPC plant sites and project locations. Some evening, weekend, or after-hours support may be required based on plant and project needs.The role involves working in industrial environments that may include noise, dust, temperature extremes, confined spaces, elevated work areas, high-voltage equipment, and work near or over water.
