Accounting Manager/Supervisor
Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Accounting Manager to lead core accounting activities and help ensure accurate, timely financial reporting in Salem, New Hampshire. This role oversees month-end close activities, supports balance sheet integrity, and partners with cross-functional teams to address accounting matters tied to operations, inventory, and manufacturing. The ideal candidate brings strong general ledger expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to analyze financial results while strengthening processes and controls.
Responsibilities:
• Direct the monthly close cycle from planning through final review, ensuring deadlines are met and financial data is complete and reliable.
• Oversee general ledger activity and confirm that transactions are classified and recorded in accordance with accounting standards.
• Create and post adjusting entries, including accruals and other period-end updates needed for accurate reporting.
• Complete and evaluate reconciliations for balance sheet and ledger accounts, identifying and correcting inconsistencies promptly.
• Investigate unusual balances, account variances, and transactional issues, then implement appropriate resolutions.
• Produce recurring financial reports for leadership and provide clear commentary on monthly performance, trends, and variances.
• Maintain detailed supporting schedules for key balance sheet and income statement accounts to support reporting accuracy.
• Contribute to year-end close efforts and coordinate documentation requests related to external audit activities.
• Partner with operations and other internal teams to understand business activity, resolve accounting questions, and support inventory, manufacturing, and light cost accounting reviews, including bills of materials and cost variance analysis.
• Participate in process improvement initiatives, special assignments, and ad hoc financial analysis to enhance efficiency and decision-making.
• Proven experience managing month-end close activities in a corporate or manufacturing accounting environment.• Strong working knowledge of general ledger accounting, journal entries, and account reconciliation practices.
• Experience supporting financial statement audits and preparing schedules or documentation for external auditors.
• Ability to analyze fluctuations, identify discrepancies, and explain financial results with accuracy and clarity.
• Familiarity with inventory accounting, manufacturing transactions, and product cost review is preferred.
• Understanding of bills of materials and how material costs affect finished goods valuation is an asset.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven setting.
• Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across accounting, operations, and other business functions.
