We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support accounting operations in Columbia, South Carolina. This position plays an important role in maintaining accurate financial records, coordinating day-to-day transaction processing, and assisting finance leadership in a growing real estate development and investment environment. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, and comfortable balancing multiple priorities while contributing to a collaborative, fast-moving team.
Responsibilities:
• Manage incoming invoices and oversee timely processing of vendor payments while maintaining accurate supporting documentation.
• Handle accounts receivable activities, including recording payments, monitoring outstanding balances, and following up on open items as needed.
• Reconcile bank accounts and review general ledger activity to ensure financial data is complete, accurate, and current.
• Prepare and post journal entries and assist with maintaining organized accounting records for monthly close activities.
• Support the preparation of financial statements and recurring internal reports requested by finance and accounting leadership.
• Provide administrative and operational support to senior finance team members to improve departmental efficiency and workflow.
• Track employee and corporate expenses using expense management platforms and ensure submissions are properly coded and documented.
• Assist with tax-related accounting tasks, including sales tax support and corporate tax documentation, as needed.• At least 2 years of hands-on accounting or bookkeeping experience, including regular use of QuickBooks or similar accounting systems.
• Working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger maintenance, and bank reconciliation processes.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, Outlook, Word, Teams, OneNote, and PowerPoint.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with a careful, accuracy-focused approach to financial work.
• Ability to manage competing deadlines, stay organized, and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Experience preparing journal entries and supporting financial reporting in a deadline-driven environment.
• Familiarity with expense management tools such as Concur or Expensify is preferred.
• An accounting degree is preferred; experience with Yardi, corporate tax, sales tax, and corporate tax return support is a plus.
