Position Overview:
A leading behavioral health organization is seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Financial Counselor to provide financial guidance and support to patients and families navigating mental health and substance use treatment services. This role serves as a liaison between patients, providers, and insurance companies to help clients understand treatment costs, insurance coverage, and available financial assistance programs.
Key Responsibilities:
•Verify insurance benefits, copays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket costs.
•Educate patients and families on treatment expenses and financial obligations.
•Assist with financial assistance applications and identify available funding resources.
•Coordinate with insurance carriers regarding authorizations, coverage verification, and billing issues.
•Maintain accurate documentation and ensure HIPAA compliance.
•Provide compassionate, customer-focused support during challenging situations.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of healthcare financial counseling, patient access, billing, or related experience.
- Strong knowledge of insurance verification, benefits, and financial assistance programs.
- Excellent communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience in patient financial services, financial counseling, or a closely related healthcare support function.
- Ability to communicate financial information to patients with professionalism, empathy, and clarity.
- Proficiency with online platforms and computer-based systems used for documentation and account review.
- Background in patient interaction roles that require strong customer service and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with patient intake processes, including collecting and verifying required information.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage sensitive information accurately and confidentially.
