B&N Grading, Inc. is immediately hiring a Heavy Equipment/Construction Mechanic for our location in Charlotte, NC. This is a skilled position involving making repairs to and maintaining construction equipment and mechanical equipment such as trucks, trailers, pavers, rollers and other equipment.
Must have a valid/clean driver’s license.
Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test.
Signing bonus after first 60 days!
Key Duties
- Maintains a minimum set of tools required for job performance
- Advanced knowledge of hydraulic and electronic systems & troubleshooting skills
- Ability to be flexible with changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Work in a neat, orderly and safe manner, constantly seeking to improve methods and the safety of others
- Be knowledgeable of OSHA requirements
- Cares and maintains company machines/equipment and ensures co-workers are doing the same
- Must have the ability to research parts in manuals, completes material requisitions, follow-up on parts orders as well as returning cores and unused parts.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a mechanic and/or combination of technical education and mechanical experience in heavy construction equipment
- Ability to operate equipment for repair purposes
- Knowledge of tools and equipment used in the construction industry
- Ability to use a high degree of independent judgement
- Doing preventive maintenance services on truck, trailer and heavy equipment.
- Perform DOT Safety Inspections
- Other duties, assigned as needed
Qualification Requirements
- Physical Demands. The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by a Heavy Duty Mechanic to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Constant physical effort, including standing, is required during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day. Employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time, and to stoop, bend, and crouch as required to perform Key Duties.
- Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 50 pounds personally, and up to 150 pounds with assistance.
- Manual dexterity to hand-carry generators, construction materials, forms, power tools, and hand tools.
- Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.
- Work Environment. The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those that a Heavy Equipment Mechanic encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
- Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Work may be performed on a non-traditional work schedule which may occasionally include nights and/or weekends.
- Work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust.
- Employee regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
- Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on a construction site such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel and asphalt.
